“GOD SAVE THE KING” CHECKS FASCISTS
(Received February 1, 11.5 p.m.) LONDON, February 1.
With the object of preventing fascists from storming the platform and attacking the Conservative candidate whom he was supporting at a meeting in Limehouse, the Secretary for Air (Sir Kingsley Wood) began singing “God Save the King,” in which the audience joined. Police stemmed a concerted charge after the anthem. Sir Kingsley was heckled mercilessly during his speech. Squibs were exploded and toy balloons were released.
