CONFERENCE OF IMPORTERS

Mass' Meeting To Be

Held

WELLINGTON, January 14.

In response to requests the executive of the Associated Chambers of Commerce has decided to convene a mass meeting of irftporters from all parts of New Zealand who are affected by the import regulations. The Importers’ Federation is acting in conjunction with the Associated Chambers. The conference will be held in Wellington on January 25 and 26. The Minister of Customs (the Hon. W. Nash) has signified his willingness to attend and will address the conference at the opening and state the case for the Government. It is hoped sufficient progress will be made to enable a series of questions to be prepared and the Minister has agreed in that case to return to the conference the following day and answer the questions. It is intended that the meeting should be not merely a meeting of delegates but a massed gathering of all importers who are prepared to spare the time and expense to attend to discuss the problems and Chambers are asked to get in touch with local trade organizations in their respective centres embracing even members outside their own ranks in order to secure attendance where possible at the conference and also arrange where firms consider it desirable for them to send representatives to the conference which it is desired should be as representative as possible.
