INFORMATION RECEIVED BY COUNTY COUNCIL
Information was received from the Under-Secretary of Internal Affairs (Mr J. W. Heenan) at yesterday’s meeting of the Southland County Council that, in accordance with the council’s request, steps were being taken for the issue of an Order-ln-Council authorizing the preparation of an extraurban planning scheme for the Prestonville townshinp area. Mr T. Cagney, Commissioner of Crown Lands, advised that, after obtaining a report on the gravel reserve at Brydone, the Department of Lands and Survey had no desire to take over the. property. The following tenders were accepted:—Toetoes riding—Kennington-Wai-kawa highway: Charles Templeton, £35110/-. Awarua riding.—WoodlandsGrove Bush-Mabel Bush roads: D. Swain and Sons, £245/-; WoodstockDacre roads, R. R. Puller, £316 11/-; Makarewa-Grove Bush-Roslyn roads, J. Crooks and Sons, £668; Hedgehope district roads, G. R. McLeod, £205 JO/-. Oreti riding.—Lintley-Josephville road (fencing): Diack and Doherty, £9B. Waihopai riding.—Stewart road (Toa): C. Emerson, £BB. Hokonui riding.— Waimea Valley road, J. J. Hurley, £286 18/-. Mataura riding.—Logan’s bridge, Mcßain road (Otama): J. Lawrence, £229 17/6. The meeting was attended by Crs G. W. Whittingham (chairman), W. M. Norman, A. S. McNaught, J. Dennis, L. A. Niederer, G. Wraytt, T. Golden, F. F. Trapski and J. McNeill.
