SANDERS CUP RACES NEXT WEEK

STEWART ISLAND BOAT CHOSEN

Stewart Island will be represented in the Sanders Cup contests at Bluff next week by the yacht Lavina. The skipper is expected to be Mr G. Bragg, but no advice about the rest of the crew had been received in Invercargill up to yesterday. The Lavina, which represented Southland last year, won the cup in 1937 as the representative of Wellington, and she will be the only previous winner to compete this year. She was bought by the Stewart Island Yacht Club after the 1937 contests. Six boats have now been entered— Marjorie (Auckland), Vanguard (Wellington), Huia (Canterbury), Lynette (Otago), Vorena (Southland) and Lavina (Stewart Island). The conditions governing the contests will be decided at a meeting of delegates at Bluff next Wednesday evening. Wellington is the holder of the cup.
