Admiralty House To Be Strictly Period In Style

Whitehall’s eighteenth century official residence, Admiralty House, London, is to be decorated for future First Lords of the Admiralty in strictly period style. Attempts at modernist treatment on the part of wives of First Lords will be discouraged by the Office of Works. Two art connoisseurs, Sir Philip Sassoon and Lady Diana Cooper, have

evolved period decorations to suit this house. Sir Philip, First Commissioner of Works, is anxious that these true-to-type decorations should be retained. The only modernist touch allowed is in the kitchens. These were brought up to date two years ago.
