LOCKE’S COMMENT ON ENGLISH GOLFERS
In an open letter to the South African open golf champion, A. D. (Bobby) Locke, The Referee, Sydney, reprints London comment on remarks made in Dunedin by Locke after winning the New Zealand open >golf title last month: —
The world is very small. A word ' uttered at the South Pole may be heard ■ in the Arctic. A comment in Dunedin flashes along the air and next morning entertains morning paper readers in i Lnndnn. '
Besides, a harmless expression of opinion may be given a twist and significance never intended.
With these few words, may we introduce to you a little colourful comment in The Daily Mail, London, just to hand by air mail: — Perhaps when Bobby Locke’s statement has been read in New York, Americans will decide to give him the invitation instead of Cotton. • For Locke, after winning the New Zealand open at Dunedin, made a speech in the course of which he said: “The reputations of English golfers are largely the result of good publicity.”
