IMPORT RESTRICTIONS
To The Editor
Sir, —It was quite refreshing to read Mr P. B. Witt’s words of wisdom and his support of the Labour Government’s actions in restricting importations. These hysterical Auckland people should be s brought up with a round turn and if necessary placed in some camp until they realize that whatever action the Government may take in the present financial crisis is only being done for the benefit of all the people in the Dominion. Mr Savage has assured us that everything is quite all right, so why worry? What does it matter if a few hundred small indentors or any other small business concerns do go out of existence. The big concerns, as represented by Mr Witt, will carry on and big business is the real thing, especially when you are in it.
Mr Witt evidently has the necessary inside information to enable him to justify his remarks that “when it suits the Government it will come out with a concrete statement and everybody will be happy.” If some of these hysterical pessimists would only swallow some of Mr Witt’s pills they would soon recover their senses and beat Mr Savage to it by “jumping through the sky!” Freedom, security and prosperity will be enjoyed by everybody, so again I say, why worry?—l am, etc., IMPORTER.
