CUP FOR GROWING ROOT CROPS

SUCCESS OF SOUTHLAND SCHOOL BOY The Stuart Wilson Cup, awarded for the most meritorious performance of the 1937-38 year in the Dominion root crop-growing competition, has been won by Edmund Blackmore, of the Oraki school. In advising the Southland Education Board of the award the Education Department said that a medal had also been prepared. The chairman of the board, Mr S. Rice, said at yesterday’s meeting that Edmund Blackmore and the Oraki school were to be congratulated on winning the cup. This was the sixth time it had been won by a Southland pupil in 18 years. Mr W. Excell was appointed to attend the break-up of the Oraki school and present the cup on behalf of the board.
