WELLINGTON, December 15.

Following is the special weather forecast for Southland, issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington:— Moderate to fresh west to southwest winds. Weather for the most part fair to fine, but a few coastal showers still probable. Temperatures moderate. Seas moderate to rather rough. Following is the Dominion forecast:— Weather changeable, with passing showers in the western and southern districts of the South Island, but later improving.” Elsewhere, for the most part fair to fine, but with some isolated local showers and, possibly, thunder. Temperatures moderate. General Situation.— Slight westerly depressions continue to cross the Dominion, affecting chiefly the western and southern portions of the South Island, but pressure is gradually rising under the influence of an anti-cyclone centred over Victoria and moving eastwards. Winds. —North-westerlies predominating in Cook Strait and on parts of the east coast, but otherwise west to south-west winds prevailing. i Seas.—New Zealand waters, rather rough to rough about Cook Strait, and rather rough at times south of Kawhia; otherwise, slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea, west to south-west winds, moderate mainly but strong in places. Seas for the most part moderate, but with some rough patches. The weather in Invercargill yesterday was fine. The sky was overcast for the greater part of the day, but the sun shone at intervals. » At one o’clock this _ morning the weather was calm and fine.
