STATEMENT OF FINANCIAL POSITION A statement of the approximate financial position of the Southland War Funds Association was presented at a meeting erf the main committee. It was as follows:—lnvestments, £10,500; pension fund, £383 11/6; outstanding advances, £5107 12/7; on current account, £253 9/7; receipts since last refunds, £24 10/-; expenditure over the same period, relief grants, £2ll 9/6; advances, £57 10/-; pension fund, £2 14/6; travelling expenses, £3 5/6; postage stamps, £5; office rental, £5 8/4; general, £3B 0/10; amounting to £323 8/8; excess of expenditure over receipts £298 18/8. A letter was received from Miss Oughton formally resigning her position with the association and asking to be relieved of her duties at the end of the month. Mr H. J. Farrant moved and Mr J. Filippini seconded' that Miss Oughton’s resignation be accepted with regret; that the committee record and convey to her its warm appreciation of her faithful and efficient, service on the staff of the association, of her willingness at all times to assist members in every way, and of her unfailing tact and courtesy in dealing with applicants and other members of the public with whom her duties had brought her into contact; that the committee extend to her its best wishes for her future happiness and prosperity; and that she be granted one month’s leave of absence on full pay from January 1. Various members spoke appreciatively of the services given by Miss Oughton and the motion was carried unanimouslv.
The Invercargill Returned Soldiers’ Association wrote applying for the usual g; - ant for Christmas cheer. It was decided that the usual grants for Christmas cheer and also for the soldiers in hospital be authorized, the amounts of Christmas cheer grants to be the same as last year, £3O to Invercargill and £7 10/- to Gore.
Mr Filippini drew attention to the fact that the association had made a grant to the Southland children’s health camp fund on condition that a certain number of returned soldiers’ children were accepted. It was resolved that the usual grant of £1 a soldier’s child be granted to the Health Camp Committee within a limit of £2O. The meeting was attended by Messrs H. J. Farrant (chairman), C. Bennet (Gore), D. Macpherson (Waianiwa), J Filippini (R.S.A., Invercargill), A. H. Cockburn (Mataura), J. Stirling (Waimahaka), J. S. A. McDougall (Bluff) and T. Pryde (Invercargill).
