(Special to The Times) WELLINGTON, December 14. Following is the special weather forecast, for Southland, issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington:— Moderate to strong south-westerly winds. Weather changeable, with passing showers at many places. Temperatures moderate to cool. Seas moderate to rather rough. Following is the Dominion forecast: — Weather changeable, with occasional rain in most districts, but little on the east coast. Tempera- x tures mild. General Situation.—A series of rather shallow depressions is crossing the Dominion, while an anti-cyclone of moderate intensity is moving from the west on to south-eastern Australia. Winds.— South-westerly in parts of western and southern districts,, otherwise west to north-west predominating; force mainly light to moderate, but strong about Cook Strait. Later, a change to freshening south-westerlies advancing from the south. . Seas.—New Zealand waters, rough in the Cook Strait area; otherwise, slight to moderate but later rising in the far south. Eastern Tasman Sea, variable and, at times, strong winds, with west to south-west predominating. Seas slight to moderate but later rising in the central and southern portions. The weather in Invercargill yesterday was unsettled. After heavy rain in the morning the weather cleared and was fine and warm, but in the afternoon heavy rain fell and continued during the evening. , , . . x , At one o’clock this morning steady rain was falling, though the weather was warm.
