I.R.A. CLASHES WITH DETECTIVES

BURIAL OF MAN KILLED AT CASTLE FINN (Received December 2, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, December 1. The funeral of James Reynolds, one of the victims of the Castle Finn explosion, led to an encounter between armed detectives and members of the Irish Republican Army. The echoes of “Last Post” had barely died out when six men, armed with rifles, approached to fire a volley over the grave. Detectives rushed forward, but failed to prevent the firing, which attracted 40 uniformed civil guards. Mourners took panic, women fainted, and 1000 members of the Republican Army blocked the detectives as the six men escaped.
