MOTOR-CAR STRUCK BY TRAIN
FIVE OCCUPANTS SUFFER INJURIES (United Press Association) PALMERSTON NORTH, December?. < At Shannon this afternoon the southbound Napier express struck a car driven by Arthur John Hodge, sharemilker of Moutoa, who was accompanied by his wife and three children. Hodge suffered head injuries and a fracture of the left thigh. His wife suffered from shock. His daughter, Bertha, aged 16 years, suffered a fracture of the left thigh, Dorothy, aged five years, a broken leg, and Edwin, aged two years, possible internal injuries. All were sent to hospital. The car, an old touring model, was considerably damaged and carried 100 feet beyond the crossing. PORTER CRUSHED BETWEEN TRUCKS (United Press Association) PALMERSTON NORTH, December 2. Severe- injuries were suffered by a railway employee who was crushed between two trucks at the Palmerston North railway yard tonight. M. D. Burke, single, aged 21 years, a junior porter received a crushed left thigh. His parents reside at Petone: He was admitted to hospital and his condition is serious.
