Watson, who has been attached to the staff of the National Mortgage and Agency Company, Ltd., and has acted as its representative at Winton for the last 14 years and who has recently received an appointment as fat lamb and stock buyer in the Eastern district with Thomas Borthwick and Sons, Ltd., was honoured at a farewell social given by his fellow members of the committee of the Winton Jockey Club. In presenting Mr Watson with a handsome dinner service, the president said that Mr Watson, during his long term of 10 years on the committee of the club had rendered valuable service. As totalizator, steward at the annual race meeting he had been an ideal official and had furthered the interests of the club in every way. Other speakers referred to the esteem in which Mr Watson was held among the farming community and to his popularity with his fellow stock agents. In reply, Mr Watson spoke appreciatively of bis association with the committee and members of the club and said that if he had been able to help the club in any way he had been well repaid. The club had had its ups and downs, but he felt certain that it had a prosperous future. The recent improvements at the racecourse were a credit to the two clubs and he trusted that they would be amply repaid for their progressiveness. He was only going away as far as Gore and, though his departure would necessitate his resignation from the committee, he hoped still to be a member of the club and if he could assist in any way he would be glad to do so. In conclusion, Mr Watson paid tribute to the people of the Winton district and voiced his appreciation for the gift and the sentiments expressed by the speakers.
