SPY STORIES
A CENTURY OF SPY STORIES. Edited by Dennis Wheatley. Hutchinson, through Whitcombe and Tombs. Price 4/6 net. The latest volume in Hutchinson’s “Century Omnibus” series is a collection of 30 spy stories edited by one of the most popular of modern adventure story writers, Dennis Wheatley. Many of the writers-r-Newman, Horler, Oppenheim, Buchan and Valentine Williams —are widely known for their work in this field. For the most part the stories are fictional, but several biographical and descriptive narratives are included—one, for instance, on the trial and death of the woman spy, Mata Hari. Classical authors such as de Maupassant, Alphonse Daudet and Ambrose Bierce are also represented. Like its predecessors in the series, the book is splendid value.
