STUDLEY ROYAL AT WORK

BENEFICIAL SPELL RICCARTON HORSES FOR WEST COAST (Special to The Times) CHRISTCHURCH, December 1. Studley Royal and Settlement have been put into work again by F D. Jones after a beneficial spell and both are in excellent condition to start on another preparation. Jones is also again Working a two-year-old colt by Nightly from Minehead, arid has put aside for a month the Australian-bred Iceland Spar. Jones intends to take Lady Leigh and probably a two-year-old by Excitement, Prduent Prince, to the Dunedin meeting. Black Fox, a five-year-old gelding by Nigger Minstrel from Silver Grey,

thus a brother to Niggerhead, has joined A. J. Martin’s stable at Riccarton and is to be raced in partnership between Mr.W. A. lorns-and, Martin. He is a big-framed gelding and it is intended to. try him out as a jumper. C; Emerson has arranged to take Great Baby and the two-year-olds, MontesSa (Brazen-Irolene) and Miss Otis (Myosotis-Royal Baby) to the Dunedin, Waikouaiti and Oamaru meetings. It is probable that Riccarton stabtes will once more be strongly represented at West Coast meetings. H. Nurse is likely to have the biggest team, which will include Palmyra, Financiere, Tantivy, Ryetown, Gillie and an unnamed three-year-old by Nightmarch from Charrrieuse. W. Cameron will race Supreme Court and Lady Middleham at Waikouaiti and Oamaru. He had hoped to take the former to the Dunedin meeting, but because of difficulty in getting riders to school the horse he has decided to tackle the highweight events at the two meetings mentioned. Cameron is at present training Star Wells, a big six-year-old gelding by Roydon from Grey Wells, by Greyspear.
