GERMANY’S ARMY NOW MILLION MEN
MACHINE-GUN COMPANY IN EVERY BATTALION
(Independent Cable Service) BERLIN, November 29.
The Army Year Book, published today, dealing with the recent reorganization of the army puts the standing strength of the German Army at 1,000,000 men, in six army groups and 18 army corps. Every infantry battalion has a ma-chine-gun company, which is now made up of two platoons with fouf guns each and a third platoon equipped with heavy grenade throwers. The infantry is also equipped with light grenade throwers for clearing out machine-gun nests. There are five tank divisions and a cavalry brigade, distinct from the semimotorized cavalry regiments, which in addition to horses also use motor-, vehicles and bicycles.
