RIFLE SHOOTING The Mataura Defence Rifle Club fired the final shoot of the Parker Cup competition recently. Conditions were fair at the 500 yards range, but became difficult at the 600 yards because of varying light and winds. B. V. Ross and T. Gaudion tied for the day trophy and these two members will have to shoot off next week. T. Gaudion and W. Webb shot the highest points off the rifle, each scoring 92.
ANGLING The Mataura Angling Club held a one-day competition, conditions providing for any river and any legal bait. There were eight entries, but only five fisherman weighed in. In the juvenile section there were three entries, but no weigh in. Results:—W. Duthie, 15 fish, 91b 12oz, plus 50 per cent., 141 b lOoz; J. Adams, 8 fish, 111 b soz, plus 10 per cent., 121 b 7oz; R. fearclay, 9 fish, 71b 9oz, plus 50 per cent, 111 b soz; R. Calder, 8 fish, 121 b lloz, scr, 101 b lloz; G.
