PRIMARY SCHOOL SPORTS

Lower Mataura Group SUCCESSFUL MEETING AT WYNDHAM After being postponed because of wet weather, the Lower Mataura primary school sports.were held on the Wyndham recreation ground in fine but windy weather. There was a big attendance.

There were no individual prizes, but two cups were competed for, one being presented by the Edendale Sports Society for the school gaining the most points under handicap conditions and the other by Mr S. Rice for the school gaining the most aggregate points without handicap. The Wyndham District High School, off the scratch mark, won both .cups, with Wyndham South (30 points on) second and Glenham (30 points on) third. The sports Eire now an annual fixture between the Wyndham, Wyndham South, Glenham, Redan, Tuturau, Brydone, Mokoreta, Mimihau, Menzies Ferry, Seaward Downs, Mataura Island and Edendale schools, and the handicaps are allotted according to the grade of the school. There were over 600 entries and the promoters, with Mr A. Ferguson as president, and Mr E. S. Macfarlane as secretary, organized the games efficiently. Mr Ferguson, on behalf of the executive, thanked the Edendale Sports Society and Mr Rice for so generously giving the cups, and Mr E. S. Macfarlane for the great amount of work he had done in organizing the programme, He asked Olga Milne and D. Mclvor, the respective captains of the Wyndham teams, to accept the cups. » On the call of D. Mclvor, the Wyndham teams gave three cheers for the other competing schools. Mr C. S. Gordon, rector of the Wyndham District High School, said he was proud to see his. school bringing home both cups and he thanked the other competitors for the sporting manner in which they had' received the win.
