THE WEATHER MAINLY CLOUDY AND MILD

WELLINGTON, November 28. Following is the special weather forecast for Southland, issued by tire Meteorological Office, Wellington:— Moderate winds, between southeast and north-east. Weather mainly cloudy and mild, but gradually becoming unsettled. Seas moderate. Following is the Dominion forecast:— Weather cloudy, sultry and hazy, with occasional rain in most districts, but more especially the South Island, where some scattered heavy falls are
probable. General Situation. —An intense cyclone is centred south-east of the Chatham Islands, while an extensive depression covers eastern Australia and most of the Tasman. A low pressure centre appears to be developing west of Auckland. Winds.— South-easterly about the Cook Strait area, but otherwise east to north prevailing, force moderate tn St Seas.—New Zealand waters, slight to moderate south of Farewell Spit, rough north of East Cape, elsewhere rather rough to rough at times with a moderate swell; eastern Tasman Sea, moderate to strong south-east to north-east winds prevailing, seas rough in the northern and central portions, moderate in the southern.
At one o’clock this morning the weather was fine and clear, though there was a strong easterly wind. The barometer readings for the last two mornings and Saturday morning have been as follows: — This morning 29.86 in Monday 30.04 in Saturday 29.61ia
