GIANT AIR LINERS FOR ATLANTIC

LONDON, November 23.

The News Chronicle states that British aviation firms propose to build transatlantic aeroplanes of 50 tons, with accommodation for 50 passengers. They will be available in two years. In spite of unavoidable delays necessitating modifications in the programme of trans-Atlantic experimental flights, it is still hoped by the Air Ministry that it will be possible to start a regular air mail service some time next year. In the House of Commons the Undersecretary for Air explained that minor changes found desirable in the Albatross land aeroplane and delay in the production of the Empire flying-boats because of defence requirements had prevented the carrying out of the original programme, and it had been decided to defer continuation of the experimental flights until more favourable conditions in the spring.
