Raincoats Become Smart As Well As Good

LONDON, October 14. Raincoats have at last been made to look beautiful as well as good. The problem of what to wear at a smart function or in town on a wet day has been acute for years. Now it is solved. The great thing about these new “macs” is that no one would know them for what they are. Their colours are good, they do not smell of rubber, and yet they are completely waterproof. The coats are made in suedette, which looks just like suede, and are cut on boxy raglan lines. They fasten high up to the throat and some have the new upstanding collars. They are made in several shades of blue, purple, green, rust and fawn. Another gay raincoat is made in a tartan pattern and in the same material. Then there is another quite different variety. It pretends to be ocelot fur, and succeeds very well. It is made in rubberized velveteen. Shoulders are padded and flattering pockets are bulky. In fact, it is al. that a real fur coat this season should be. It is particularly good for. the “petite” type. So now we have no excuse for not looking elegant on a rainy day.
