Mason, a visitor from the Solomon Islands, when speaking at the Travel Club’s reception in Christchurch, paid a tribute to the Plunket Society, whose methods she attempted to put jn practice among the mothers in her district. The good behaviour of the babies trained in Plunket ways made a great impression, she said, on the island mothers, who flocked to her house to watch what seemed to them a miracle—q baby being washed without crying. , News has come from JSydney of the marriage of Miss Jessie Copeland, daughter of Air I. Copeland, Otatara, and Mr Basil Roberts, of Sydney. The ceremony will take place quietly at St. Augustine’s Church, Neutral Bay, Sydney, on the evening of Saturday, November 5, and the reception will be held at Montenotte, Neutral Bay, the home of Mr and Mrs F. F. Curow, which they have lent for the occasion. A motor trip in the north has been planned for the honeymoon.

BLUFF Captain N. R. Haszard and Mrs Haszard and their daughter Robin, Spencer street, spent last week-end in the Eglinton Valley. Mr and Mrs O. F. Metzger and their children, Bradshaw street, motored to Dunedin last week-end, and were the guests of Mrs Metzger’s sister, Mrs J. McNulty. Miss Baldwin, Miss N. Schofield and Miss M. Wares, spent Labour Day week-end in the Eglinton Valley. Miss N. Baker, Stewart Island, arrived on Wednesday to spend a holiday on the mainland. Last week Mr and Mrs C. R. Mr and Mrs P. Dixon, Makarewa, were visitors to Bluff during the week. Last Tuesday afternoon the members of the Mothers’ Union and St. Matthew’s Guild met in the school room to bid farewell to Mrs Robinson and Mrs C. R. Wavish. Simpson, who are to leave Gore shortly for Masterton. Mr E. J. Columb presented Mr Simpson with a crystal water service from the members of the Post Office Social Club. In making the presentation, Mr Columb spoke of Mr Simpson’s popularity with the staff and referred to’ his successful effort in promoting social activity in the office.
