TRAM EMPLOYEES NOT SATISFIED
WELLINGTON AWARD / MASS MEETING TO BE HELD TOMORROW (United Press Association) ' WELLINGTON, October 28. A mass meeting of Wellington tramwaymen is to be held in the Trades Hall on Sunday, when the latest developments in the new award will be * discussed. Considerable dissatisfaction existed among the men when the award, granting an increase of a penny half-penny an hour to hourly workers and five shillings a week to weekly workers, was issued on October 18. It was claimed that the men were the lowest paid of any tramwaymen in New Zealand. Representations were made to the City Council for retrospective pay and an increase on the minimum rates fixed by the Second Court of Arbitration. The council granted retrospective pay as from April 27, but declined to interfere with the rates of pay. The decision of the council was discussed at a meeting of the executive of the Tramways Union today, the secretary, Mr W. N. Broadley, subsequently stating that the position would be reviewed at a. mass meeting of tramwaymen on Sunday. Among the men today there was evidence that dissatisfaction still prevailed.
