Votes In Waitaid Electorate NATIONAL CANDIDATE 10 VOTES AHEAD (United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, October 27. Mr D. Barnes, the defeated Labour candidate for the Waitaki seat, has lodged an application for a magisterial recount of votes cast in his electorate at the election. . . Mr Barnes, who held the Waitaki seat for the Government in the last Parliament, was unseated at the election by the National candidate, Mr D. C. Kidd, who obtained a majority of 10 votes on the official count. This was a reduction of 52 votes on the majority he received at the preliminary count. OFFICIAL COUNTS WELLINGTON, October 27. Results of official counts in various electorates are as follows:— GREY LYNN The official count for Grey Lynn shows an increased majority for Mr J. A. Lee (Labour) over Mr J. A. Govan (National) of 8607 votes, compared with a provisional majoiity of 8265. The final polling in favour of Mr Lee was 11,584, against 2977 for Mr Govan, compared with a provisionalcount of 11,069 and 2804 respectively. CENTRAL OTAGO W. A. Bodkin (National) 5225 J. M. Mackay (Labour) 3992 Informal 38 Absentee votes: Bodkin, 234; Mackay, 348; postal, Bodkin C 5; Mackay 72; declaration, Bodkin 2; Mackay 3. EDEN In the final count Mr W. T. Anderton (Labour) received an increase of only 14 in his majority over Mr D. Pool (National) in the Eden electorate. The final count gave Mr Anderton 8969 votes against 6636 for Mr Pool. ROSKILL At Roskill Mr A. S. Richards (Labour) received a final count of 8272, against 6131 credited to Mr A. S. Bailey (National). AUCKLAND CENTRAL For Auckland Central the Hon W. E. Parry (Labour) increased his majority over Mr C. R. Dodd (National) by over 200, receiving in the final count 10,151 votes against 3970 to Mr Dodd. AUCKLAND SUBURBS A substantial increase in his majority was recorded by the Hon. H. G. R. Mason (Labour) in the Auckland Suburbs electorate, where the final figures for him were 8164, against 3302 for Mr M. S. Walker (National) and 238 for Mr F. Allen (Independent). WAITEMATA The final count for Waitemata resulted in 7806 votes for Mr W. J. Lyon (Labour), and 5545 for Mr J. E. Close (National). EGMONT C. A. Wilkinson (Independent) 5063 T. E. Trask (Labour) 3361 Informal 82 Majority for Wilkinson 1042 Other votes were cast as follows: Absentee: .Wilkinson, 103; Trask, 108; postal: Wilkinson, 85; Trask, 48; declaration: Wilkinson, 6; Trask, 11. WANGANUI J. F. B. Cotterill (Labour) 8630 H. C. Veitch (National) 4710 Informal ... 62 Majority for Cotterill 3920 Out of 14,887 bn the roll, 1485 persons did not vote. MID-CANTERBURY , The outstanding absentee vote in the Mid-Canterbury electorate favoured Mr H. E. Herring (Labour). Mr A. N. Grigg’s majority is now 74. ’ KAIAPOI The official count for the Kaiapoi electorate shows that the successful candidate, Mr C. Morgan Williams (Labour), increased his lead over Mr G. C. Warren (National) from 1350 to 1535 compared with the first count. The official return was:— Williams 6348 Warren 4813 Majority for Williams 1535 Other votes were cast as follows:— Absentee votes: Williams, 258; Warren, 183; informal 11.
