THE WEATHER
COOL AND CHANGEABLE (Special to The Times) WELLINGTON, October 27. Following is the special weather forecast for Southland, issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington:— Moderate to strong south-west to westerly winds. Weather cool and changeable, with passing showers at first, but soon improving. Seas rather rough. Following is the Dominion forecast:— ' Weather cloudy to overcast, with rain in most places and heavy at first in parts of the central provinces. An improvement beginning tomorrow. Temperatures cooler. General Situation.—A rather deep depression with a marked northward extension is crossing the South Island. An anti-cyclone is moving from eastern Australia on to the Tasman. Winds.—Moderate to strong northerlies at first over most of the country, but moderate to strong southerlies over the southern half of the South Island and south-westerlies or southerlies becoming general by morning. Seas—New Zealand waters, slight to moderate at first on the east coast south of East Cape, but otherwise mainly rather rough to rough; eastern Tasman Sea, moderate to strong southwesterly winds and rather rough to rough seas.
The weather in Invercargill yesterday was mild but wet. Rain fell intermittently during the day and steadily in the evening. , , .
