Mrs A. F. Speight, Redcliff, returned to the country yesterday after a brief visit to town, where she was the guest <.’ Mrs W. E. Hazlett, Filleul street. Mrs Noel McGregor, Mount Linton, was hostess at a luncheon party yesterday and afterwards her guests played bridge and mah jongg. Mrs Lewis Clapp left from Bluff in the Maunganui yesterday afternoon for Melbourne, from where she will go to Sydney to spend an extended holiday.

Mr and Mrs G. McKnight (Invercargill), Miss R. Crighton (Waimahaka), and Mr John Wesney (Waimahaka) have been the guests of Mr W. J. Wesney, Wharetiro, Otautau.

SUCCESSFUL DANCE AT WRIGHTS BUSH

HALL FUNDS ASSISTED A successful dance was held in the Wrights Bush Hall in aid of the hall funds. Music was supplied by Mr I. McCallum, and Mr O. Robertson was master of ceremonies. WEDDING

STRANG—THOMPSON The wedding was solemnized in St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Queenstown, on Saturday evening, October 22, of Thelma Elsie, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs D. W. Thompson, Queenstown, and George Linton, only child of Mr and Mrs W. Strang, of Dunedin. The Rev. D. K. Boyd performed the ceremony, and Miss M. Mclnnes played the organ. The church was decorated with white lilies by friends of the bride. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a slim fitting frock of white panel satin. The sleeves were tight fitting and were gathered fully on the shoulders, and the high neckline was caught up with a pearl ornament. The long embroidered veil was pleated to a halo of orange blossoms. Her bouquet was of white roses. The bride’s two sisters attended her as bridesmaids. Miss Jean Thompson wore green floral georgette and Miss Mary Thompson wore pink floral georgette. The frocks had square necklines

and full skirts. They wore silver halos and long silver mittens, and they carried bouquets of shaded tulips and carnations. Mr Guthrie Strang, of Waimatuku, was best man, and Mr Robert Bowie, Cromwell, was groomsman. The reception was held at the Royal Cafe where Mrs Thompson, the bride’s mother, assisted by Mrs Strang received the guests. Mrs Thompson wore a tailored pin striped costume, with a navy straw hat and she carried a bouquet of pink and blue tulips. The bridegroom’s mother wore a navy chenille spotted frock under a musquash coat with a matching hat Her bouquet was of pink tulips and maidenhair fern.

For travelling the bride wore a blue frock under a navy coat with a grey fur collar and a blue hat. Mr and Mrs Strang's future home vlill be in Otautau.

Miss Ruth Baxter, of Geraldine, has returned home after spending a holiday with her aunt, Mrs D. Irwin, Browns. Miss Marion Tilley, Great North road, is spending a holiday in Waimate. Mrs A. G. Dixon and Miss C. Dixon, Park street, were visitors to Lillbum for the week-end.
