SUCCESSFUL SEASON FOR YACHT CLUB OFFICERS ELECTED AT ANNUAL MEETING The success of the past season was commented on by the chairman (Mr T. K. Bragg) at the annual meeting of the Stewart Island Yacht Club. Mr Bragg explained that there had. been some delay in drawing up the annual report, but he gave an outline of the club’s activities during the year. A very good performance was given b: the Lavina, which had been selected to represent Southland at the Sanders Cup contest held at Dunedin in January, said Mr Bragg. The crew comprised G. Bragg (skipper), L. Bragg, C. Topi and A. Marshall and it had sailed with considerable success. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £9O 18/7J. The election of office-bearers resulted as follows:—Patron, Mr J. A. Sloane; commodore, Mr T. K. Bragg (re-elect-ed); vice-commodore, Mr H. Hansen (re-elected); rear-commodore, Mr L. Dawson (re-elected); secretary and treasurer, Mr W. Hamilton (re-elected); general committee, Messrs W, Bailey, jun., L. Bragg, J. Hamilton, G. Bragg and J. Hunter; auditor, Mr W. Oswald; trustees, Messrs T. K. Bragg and W. Hamilton. The chairman explained that under the new regulations of the New Zealand Yacht and Motor-Boat Association, Stewart Island, together with several other towns, would have its own representation at the next Sanders Cup contest, which would be held at Bluff. In the past it had been customary to compete in the trials at Bluff, but this season it would be necessary for the club to hold its own trials. It was decided to hold 12 races during the season, the skipper of each of the three boats to sail four consecutive races in each craft. It is hoped, to complete the races by January and the trials will decide the island’s representation at the Sanders Cup contest. The three boats which will compete in the trial races will be the Lavina, Rona and Murihiku 11. The fixing of an opening day was left to the incoming committee. It was stated that repairs would have to be made to the slipway and when the work was completed the club would open at an early date.
