PRESENTATION

MR C. R. WAVISH BIDDEN FAREWELL Mr C. R. Wavish, who has been chief clerk in the Bluff Office of the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company for a number of years and who has been transferred to Lyttelton to take charge of the company’s wool stores there, was bidden farewell by members of the staff before his departure. A presentation of a crystal decanter set was made by the manager (Mr E. G. Parsons), on behalf of the staff. Mr Parsons referred to Mr Wavish’s excellent qualities and congratulated him on his appointment. Messrs O. Johnston, E. Rollinson and J. White also spoke and Mr Wavish replied. EUCHRE TOURNAMENT There was a good attendance at the weekly euchre tournament, organized in aid of the Bluff Dominican Convent, which was held in the Willard Hall. Mrs C. Jackson won first prize among the women players and Mrs Streatfield was second. Mr A. Nightingale won the first prize for the men and Mr W. Lowe took second place. Lucky number prizes were won by Mrs G. Long and Mrs Roderique. FRIENDLY CRICKET MATCH A friendly cricket match between teams from Bluff and Mataura, played at the port, resulted in a win for Bluff by 80 runs. The home team compiled 110 runs and Mataura made 30. M. Dimond was the top-scorer for Bluff with 27 runs and L. Thompson made 25. Bowling, M. Dimond took four wiclcets for 1 run and L. Barnett three for 7.
