Prices Of Fat Cattle Easier FAT SHEEP IN HEAVY SUPPLY

(United Press Association) DUNEDIN. October 26. Though the entry of 286 head of fat cattle at the Bumside stock sale today was not a large yarding, prices were easier. This was probably because of the fact that butchers still had stocks on hand and there was no outside competition. The quality over all was good, being fully up to recent ' standards. Cattle were down from the beginning and there was a further easing as the sale progressed. Extra prime ’ heavy bullocks made to £24 7/6, prime £lB 2/6 to £l9 2/6, medium £l3 2/6 to £l5 2/6 and light from £8 17/6. Extra prime cows and heifers made to £l4 17/6, prime £ll 2/6 to £l3 2/6, medium £9 7/6 to £l2 2/6 and light down to £5 17/6. Extra choice ox beef made £2 18/- per 1091 b and prime £2 16/-. Prime heifer beef made £2 17/6 and poorer cow beef £2. There were 175 stores forward and | values eased. Several pens of fouryear steers brought to £lO 12/6. The largest fat sheep yarding for some time was forward, 2730 head being penned, including several consignments from South Canterbury, about half being shorn. Supplies were well beyond requirements and the market eased from the start to the extent of about 2/- a head, passings being frequent towards the end of the sale. Extra prime heavy woolly wethers made to £2 2/-, prime, £1 14/- to £1 16/6, and poorer cow beef £2. Spring lambs were forward which brought recent values, going to £ll4/3, Fat pigs, of which 111 head were yarded, sold in keen competition to £6 1/- for best baconers and to £3 15/- for best porkers. Stores were in good supply and were easier, large sorts bringing to £1 17/6.

ADDINGTON MARKET PRICES MAINTAINED IN BIGGER ENTRY (United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, October 26. The entries at the weekly stock market at Addington today were slightly larger than normal, but generally prices were maintained. The store sheep penning included the first of the season’s Chatham Islands wethers, which wert in keen demand by graziers. A line of 141 head brought 23/- to 25/- and another of 161 head 22/3 to 23/3. The sale on the whole was inclined to be better than last week, except for ewes and lambs. Six eight-tooth ewes and lambs brought to 16/9, good sound-mouth to 13/1 and aged 8/- to 9/6. A pen of woolly Corriedale ewe hoggets brought to 27/9, shorn wether hoggets to 14/9, medium sorts to 12/10 and rough from 7/-.

There was an excellent sale of spring lambs. The quality generally was better than the earlier offerings. There was ; spirited competition until the last few pens. On an average values of prime sorts finned about 1/- to 1/6, making a fraction more than lljd per lb. Fat Sheep.—The entry numbered about 4709. Except for a few lines, the penning consisted almoSt entirely of shorn sheep. The quality generally was good. The sale opened soundly at a slight advance on the rates of a week ago, but over the last two races there was an easing, the supply being in excess of the demand. Extra prime shorn wethers made to 32/1, prime wethers 25/6 to 28/6, prime medium 23/6 to 25/— and light to 29/6. Extra prime shorn ewes made to 26/7, prime ewes 20/6 to 23/-, prime medium 18/6 to 20/- and light and ordinary 15/7 to 18/-. Fat Cattle.—The entry numbered 435. The quality was again above the average. The sale from the outset was

keen. Values were fully on a par wit! last week and some cases better. Besi beef made about 47/- per 1001 b, youngei prime sorts about 2/- more, good heavj 42/6 to 46/- and inferior down to 35/Extra prime heavy steers made tc £22 2/6, prime heavy £l7 15/- tc £l9 15/-, prime medium £l6 5/- tc £l7 10/- and light to £l2. Extra prime heifers made to £l5 17/6, prime £l2 to £l4, medium £lO 10/- to £ll 15/- and light to £lO. Extra prime cows made to £l6 12/6, prime £lO 5/- to £l3 5/-, medium £8 5/- to £9 10/- and light £6-to £B. Fat Pigs.—The entry in the porker section was easily the largest for some time. Prices from the outset were a shade easier, but over the last two races values eased further to the extent of. 3/- to 5/-. The over-supply constituted practically a double market yarding. Choppers were forward in much smaller numbers and the easing of last week was fully recovered. The baconer entry was smaller and the sale lifeless throughout. Values were easier. Choppers made from £2 13/6 to £6 1/and porkers 44/6 to £3 5/6, the average price per lb being from 7*Jd to 8 ; ;d. Baconers made from £3 7/6 to £5 5/6, average price per lb being from 7|d to 7fd.

THE WOOL MARKET PRICES HOLDING WELL IN SYDNEY (Received October 26, 10.35 p.m.) SYDNEY, October 26. At the wool sales 13,243 bales were offered and 12,390 were sold, also 1220 privately.
