MOST SECTIONS SMALLER
FAT SHEEP MARKET ERRATIC FIRMER VALUES FOR PRIME CATTLE Most sections were smaller in size at the Lomeville stock sale yesterday, but there was a bigger yarding of fat sheep. This market was erratic, and there was a fairly general decline for most qualities, but prime sheep practically maintained last week’s prices. Other sorts,were about 2/- a head easier. The fat cattle entry was smaller than last week and the yarding met a strong demand, resulting in an improvement of about £1 10/- a head on last week’s prices. There were moderate entries of store cattle and sheep and the sales did not attract much interest, prices being about equal to late rates for these classes of stock. Following are the entries in the individual sections for the- last two October 25 October 18. FAT CATTLE There was a much smaller yarding of fat cattle, with only a small percentage of good quality cattle. Compared with last week there was an average improvement in the market of about £1 10/- a head. STORE CATTLE There was a small yarding in the store cattle section and there was not a great deal of interest taken in the sale, there being no forward bullocks in the offering. Two-year-old steers brought from £5 to £6 5/-. A pen of two-year-old heifers realized £4 7/6. Yearling heifers brought up to £2 15/-, with smaller sorts down to 30/-. The few empty cows offered sold at about
late rates. There was a small entry in the dairy section, mostly of nondescript sorts, but an odd good cow close to profit sold well at up to £7 10/-, while others brought from £4 to £5, with cull sorts selling at about £3. FAT SHEEP There was an extra large yarding of . fat sheep included in which were some
sheep of extra nice quality. In the early stages of the sale values were easier, but as the sale progressed there was a firming tendency and compared with last week values for good quality sheep were fully maintained, but medium quality and medium sorts were about 2/- a head easier. Extra prime heavy woolly wethers realized up to 45/6, prime heavy 34/- to 38/-, good quality 30/- to 32/-, medium 27/- to 28/6, light and unfinished 24/- to 25/-; prime shorn wethers 23/- to 25/6, medium 21/6 to 22/-, light and unfinished down to 17/-; extra prime heavy woolly maiden ewes up to 35/-, prime heavy ewes 28/- to 30/-, good quality 25/6 to 27/-, medium 21/6 to 23/-, light and unfinished 15/- to 17/6; prime shorn maiden ewes up to 25/-, prime quality 20/- to 23/-; lambs from 25/to 35/-. , .
