JAPANESE APPROACH HANKOW
CHINESE CLAIM SUCCESS (Received October 21, 7.30 pm.) SHANGHAI, October 20. The Japanese claim to be steadily approaching Hankow, having reached Ochemg, which is 70 miles downstream from it, but 40 miles direct. The Chinese insist that they repulsed the invaders along the Tehan-Singtze railway and also claim a success at Wuchaiten. The Japanese report the capture of Cheng-Kanshu, 20 miles from Canton.
