GOVERNMENT LOANS QUIET ON INVERCARGILL EXCHANGE
A quiet market continued for Government loans on the Invercargill Stock Exchange yesterday. Australian banks were fairly active, buyers for Commercials (pref.) moving up to £9 9/6. No change took place in insurances. Australian industrials remained steady. There was little inquiry for New- Zealand issues. The mining market was unchanged. Sales of 1.C.1. (pref.) at £1 2/5, Woolworths at £1 1/1| and £1 1/3, G. J, Coles at £3 19/4j, Bank of Australasia at £lO 7/-, Commercial Banks at 16/11, Broken Hill Proprietaries at £2 18/4|, were reported.

The lamb market is slightly easier on continued heavy supplies of Home-killeU wethers and ewes and because of heavier supplies and poor demand. Frozen beef is meeting with a good demand at higher prices. Chilled beef is firmer on lighter supplies. New Zealand porker pigs, light and med ium weights, are unchanged. Heavyweights are slightly easier. New Zealand baconer pigs are quiet and unchanged. Boneless nobby veal, new season’s arrivals, is meeting with steady demand with prices unchanged.
