JOCKEY ADMITTED TO PROBATION
FOUND GUILTY OF THEFT (United Press Association) AUCKLAND, October 21. Michael Stewart, a licensed jockey, aged 23, was admitted to two years’ probation by Mr Justice Callan in the Supreme Court, having been found guilty of theft earlier in the session. In sentencing Stewart fee judge said he thought it proper in the circumstances to admit prisoner to probation. The fact that the jury had found Ste_w>art not guilty of breaking and entering and had recommended leniency indicated feat they had adduced fee belief he himself held feat Stewart would not have committed the offence had he not been ifnder fee. Influence of liquor. Stewart was also instructed to take out a prohibition order. _
