ITALIAN EXODUS FROM SPAIN

BRITISH RECOGNITION OF ABYSSINIA DIPLOMATIC ACTIVITY IN ROME (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright) (Received October 6, 7.10 p.m.) LONDON, October 5. The Rome correspondent of the British United Press says that the British Ambassador (the Earl of Perth) saw the Italian Foreign Minister (Count Galeazzo Ciano) for the third time in three days. It is understood that he discussed: (1) The date of the Italian exacuation of Spain and whether advisers would withdraw with the infantry. (2) The date of Britain’s recognition of the Italian Empire in Ethiopia. (3) The time and method of operating the Anglo-Italian Treaty. It is believed that they are anxious to complete the negotiations to secure the approval of the Fascist Grand Council, which is meeting on Friday. A deputation of Labour members of the House of Commons visited the chairman of Non-Intervention Committee (the Earl of Plymouth) and urged that the British Government should convoy food ships to Spain because of renewed bombings and the serious food situation among Republican non-com-batants. The deputation also emphasized its anxiety at the possibility of a settlement with Signor Mussolini at the expense of the Republicans.
