MONTHLY MEETINGS WALLACETOWN BRANCH At the monthly meeting of the Wallacetown branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union Mrs J. Gray presided over a. very big attendance and welcomed two members, Mesdames R. S. Young and McDonald, to the meeting. A presentation of a crystal sugar and cream set was made to Mrs Whitehead, who is leaving the district. Mrs Whitehead replied. The roll call was “A sponge filling.” The competitions resulted:—Three varieties sweets: Misses L. and E. Ronald, 1 eq, Miss M. Cockburn 2, Misses Buick and McGearty 3. Best bloom: Mrs G. Gray and Mrs Jolly 1 eq., Miss Hawkes 2, Mrs Alderson 3. Miss Elaine Bruland gave u demonstration on beaten brass work. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames G. Gray, Gunther and Jolly. EDENDALE BRANCH At the monthly meeting of the Edendale branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union Mrs F. Brown presided over a fair attendance. Motions of sympathy were passed With Mesdames Lamont and Scoular in their recent bereavements. It was decided to obtain £2 worth of goods from the Soldiers’ Civil Reestablishment League. The roll-call was “Can you tell me? ’ An Association for Country* Education loan packet on “School Lunches” was read by Mrs A. J. Townley. The results of the competitions were: Sponge cake: Miss E. Sinclair 1, Mrs C. Milne 2, Mrs J. Morris 3. Narcissi: Mrs R. A. Marshall 1, Mrs Morris 2, Mrs L. Christie 3. The hostesses were Mesdames Robertson, Frame, Butt and Mcßeth. WOODLANDS BRANCH The monthly meeting of the Woodlands branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held in the public hall. Mrs W. Henderson presided over a small attendance of members. Final arrangements were made for the spring flower show, which is being held on October 11. The roll-call was “My Favourite Flower and Why.” The afternoon’s competitions resulted as follows:— Coco-nut ice: MissD.Dewe 1, Mrs C. J. Roseveare 2, Mrs R. F. Walker 3. Victorian posy: Mrs T. McKinnel 1, Mrs Roseveare 2, Mrs J. Robbie 3. Best bloom: Miss F. Henderson 1, Mesdames Robbie, McKinnel and Roseveare 2 eq. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mrs J. Pye and Miss D. Dewe. TUATAPERE BRANCH There was a good attendance at the eighth birthday party of the Tuatapere branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union. The hall was decorat1 ed for the occasion by Mrs W. Low. ■ Visitors were present from the OtauL tau and Orawia branches. Mrs Stanley Brown, of Invercargill, ; gave an address on three different organizations, the health campaign, Crippled Children’s Association, and the Pan-Pacific Women’s Association. • Mrs Low contributed two musical monologues and Mrs F. Kilkelly was accompanist. Mrs F. Harrison made the birthday 2 cake, decorated with candles, which were lit by Mrs Erskine, sen., and blown out by Miss M. McKerchar. The . cake was cut by Mrs Smellie, a pastpresident of the Otautau branch. ’ Shoulder sprays made by Mrs Low were presented by the president to Mrs Stanley. Brown and her mother, Mrs Walton, and to the president and secretary of the Tuatapere branch by Mrs ' Howden. , „ Mrs A. Boulter was the winner of the lucky cup, and David Erskine the lucky SGdt Miss Isobel Brown was the winner „ of Mrs H. DIPTON BRANCH At the monthly meeting of the Dipton branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers Union Mrs A. Lindsay, vice-president, presided over a small Mrs Lindsay extended a welcome to Mrs Orr, provincial president, who gave an address on the Dominion conference and division affairs. The motto for the meeting was “Never trouble trouble, till trouble troubles you.” The roll-call was “A Gardening Hint.” Competitions resulted:—Best bloom: Mrs F. S. Sinclair 1, Mrs Flint 2. Little girl’s frock: Miss M. Craig 1, Mrs Flint 2. Six meringues: Miss Isa Craig. Hostesses were Mesdames Shand, Taylor, Craig, Finlayson and Miss Craig. The members of the Farmers’ Union and Young Farmers’ Club were guests at supper.
