BAPTIST BIBLE CLASS WEEK

ANNUAL COMPETITIONS HELD Some years ago it was decided by the Baptist Bible Classes of the Dominion to seek the co-operation of the churches in which they function to set aside the first week in September as a special Bible Class week in which the regular meetings would be partly or wholly conducted by Bible Class members and several special functions, appropriate to Bible Class work, be held. The first such week proved so successful that it has now become an annual event and last night an oratorical contest in the Georgetown Baptist Church concluded the Bible Class week for 1938 in Invercargill. The regular meetings conducted by Bible Class members included morning and evening Sunday services in the Esk street, North Invercargill and afternoon services at the outstations and Georgetown Baptist Churches, and the regular mid-week prayer meetings conducted at the city churches. Special cottage prayer meetings were organized and led, early morning prayer meetings and communion service were held on the Sundays. Open air meetings were conducted in the main business area each Sunday, women’s and men’s oratorical contests and Gospel solo competitions were organized and an after-church rally was held last Sunday evening. The rally was addressed by the minister of the Esk street Baptist Church, the Rev. S, W. Wyness.
