BEST PRODUCTION IN NEW ZEALAND
The highest producing cow in New Zealand last season was an eight-year-old Jersey-cross cow belonging to Mr E. F. Peacocke, of Westonlea, Hamilton, according to figures just released by the New Zealand Co-operative Herd-Testing Association. The cow, Thelma, which registered 7101 b of butterfat in 305 days, was sired by a Jersey bull, the dam being a Friesian. The animal was bred at Westonlea eight years ago by Mr A. J. Nunn, a share-milker on Mr Peacocke’s property, and is at present grazing in Mr Nunn’s herd of 329 cows. Its dam was always a high-producing animal and on one occasion registered up to 5001 b of butterfat. Thelma has always been well up in the association’s averages. She was fed under ordinary farm conditions with the remainder of the herd.
