INCREASED NUMBER OF CATTLE

AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND In 1935 there were 14,000,000 cattle in Australia, of which 3,266,000 were used for dairying. The original stock in 1788, consisted of one bull, four cows and a calf. In New Zealand, in a little over 100 years, the cattle population has grown to 4,389,000, of which 1,936,000 are dairy cows. Taking the farming population and grazing areas of the two countries into consideration, it would appear that the Dominion is at least holding its own in the rapid increase of cattle.
