Mr and Mrs Lawrence Tibbett, of New York, were recent visitors to The Hermitage, Mount Cook. Mrs Norman Speight, of Dunedin, with her two sons, is the guest of Mrs C. J. Speight, Wether Hill, Ohai. Mrs J. Williams, of Dunedin, with her two daughters, is staying with her mother Mrs Robert Story, Venlaw Miss Daphne Smith and Mr L. W. Smith, Shirley, Gladstone, leave tomorrow morning from Dunedin by air to spend a holiday at Auckland and Rotorua.
Mr and Mrs J. W. Smith, Shirley, Gladstone, and Mr and Mrs Robert Collingwood, Dee street, Wellesley, left on Saturday for a holiday at Lake Wanaka.
Mr and Mrs W. N. Bond, Dunrobin, who have been the guests of Mrs Marmaduke Bethell, Pahau Pastures, North Canterbury, have returned to Christchurch and are staying at Warwick House.
Mrs R. Kennedy, Drummond, is the guest of her sister, Mrs I. M. Grieve, Galway street. Mrs W. E. Lindsay, also of Drummond, has been staying with her sister, Mrs Grieve, and has returned to the country.
The efforts of the Cabaret Club have been marked successes this season, and another equally successful function was held in Elmwood Garden on Saturday evening. More than 50 couples danced in a happy atmosphere provided by bright fires and bowls of flowers. Mr and Mrs C. R. Hart, Albert street, entertained a number of friends before the cabaret on Saturday evening in honour of Dr and Mrs O. J. Shirley Flaus, of Invercargill, won the tap dancing event at the Dunedin Competitions Society’s festival on Friday evening. The event was for children under 10, and the judge, Miss Gwen Gibbs, of Palmerston North, said that the work was very clever for such young children. The beating was clear and light, and the placed competitors had a definite rhythmic sense. Beverley Wix, of Green Island, was second, and Joan Kean, of Dunedin, was third.
Mr and Mrs John Evans, of Invercargill, visited Cardiff for the National Eisteddfod (says the London correspondent of The Otago Daily Times, writing on August 6). Mr Evans left
North Wales for New Zealand when he was eight years of age. He went back 27 years ago, when he married, ana then returned to the Dominion with his wife. Both are enjoying revisiting familiar scenes and meeting old friends. They will sail for New Zealand in October.
Sir Cyril Ward and Lady Ward, Christchurch, have taken a flat in London, and the former is engaged in business activities while there. Sir Cyril Ward and Lady Ward and Miss Theresa Ward arrived at Greenock by the Franconia
early in June. On their way to England they visited Fiji, Honolulu, San Pedro, Balboa, New York, and Boston. From Greenock they made a motortour of Scotland, and then came to London, by the English Lakes, Manchester, Liverpool, Chester, Shrewsbury, Oxford, arriving about the end of June. In August they intend to make a short tour on the Continent, and afterwards to visit friends and relations in different parts of England. At file end of September they will leave for New Zealand, probably by the Strathmore, which is due at Wellington on November 21.
