The Secretary of State for the Dominions (Lord Stanley), addressing Canadian ex-servicemen, said: “There is an idea in some quarters that the youth of England has become flabby and degenerate. Don’t believe it. They’re every bit as good as when we were young. If at any time a threat comes and the youth of England is called on I’ve no doubt about the wholehearted response they will give.”
