RIFLE SHOOTING

CHAMPIONSHIPS ON MINIATURE RANGE BRILLIANT EXHIBITION BY W. MURRAY The Southland Miniature Rifle Association’s third championship meeting was held on Saturday afternoon and evening, when there were 190 entries, compared with 120 last year. The standard of shooting was very high and was stated to be even better than that at the South Island championships. W. Murray (Invercargill) gave a brilliant exhibition of shooting to win the A grade championship with two possibles. The women’s championship was won by Miss Butel, who is having her first year at miniature rifle shooting. There was very keen competition for The Southland Times Shield, only five points separating the four leading teams. The winner was the Hollyford No. 2 team, which beat Invercargill No. 1 by a point. City Guards and Waiau tied for first place in the champion teams’ shoot with 783 points. Following are the results: — '•
