TITLES UNDER SMALL FARMS SCHEME

POLICY OF GOVERNMENT. EXPLAINED (From Our Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, August 11. The Government’s policy in the granting of titles to settlers under the small farms scheme was the subject of a statement by the Minister of Lands (the Hon. F. Langstone) in the House of Representatives today. The Minister’s statement was made in reply to a question asked some days ago by Mr A. C. A. Sexton (C.P., Franklin). “The existing legislation provides for a lease for 10 years with the right of purchase after four years,” said Mr Langstone, “and the right must be exercised before the expiry of the term. This term is considered to be too short and the exercise, of the right of purchase- impossible of fulfilment within such a limited period. Nevertheless, any occupier who is qualified to receive a lease may apply for and be granted a lease under the existing legislation.”
