GOOD ENTRIES FOR BAND CONTEST

INVERCARGILL FIXTURE IN NOVEMBER Satisfactory entries for the brass and pipe band contest to be held at Invercargill on November 5 were received at a meeting of representatives of city bands and citizens’ committees last evening, Mr J. S. Brass presiding. The following executive committee was elected: Mr J. S. Brass (president); Messrs J. Pickard and A. Wachner (vice-president), Messrs R. Wilson, F. Logan, E. Kelly, T. Withington, T. Boyd and Lieutenant Cockerell (executive); Mr L. A. Blackmore (treasurer) and Mr Alex Sutherland (secretary). The following very satisfactory entries were received:—

Brass Bands.—Otago Mounted Rifles Band (Oamaru), Green Island Municipal, St. Joseph’s Orphanage, Gore Municipal, Band of Ist Battalion Southland Regiment and Port Chalmers Marine Band.

Pipe Bands.—Momona, Taieri, Dunedin Highland, North Otago, Palmerston Highland, Gore and Invercargill Caledonian.

Mr R. J. Estell (of Christchurch), was appointed adjudicator for the brass band contest. The judge of pipe music has yet to be finalized by the Pipe Band centre.

With such a representative entry, the committee stated it had every confidence of staging a contest which would do credit to the city of Invercargill
