Food does not taste right when you have a cold because of the partial stoppage of the nasal passages. The nerve endings which are stimulated by odours cover a very limited area of the upper nasal cavities.
White cats are not all deaf. Yellow or green-eyed white cats are never deaf unless because of accident. But blue-eyed white cats do have a tendency towards deafness.
