DURHAM BEATEN BY INNINGS

AUSTRALIAN BOWLING TOO GOOD FLEETWOOD-SMITH AND O’REILLY (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright) LONDON, August 9. Australia defeated Durham, a secondclass county, by an innings and 179 runs. Sent in on a damp wicket as the result of overnight fog, the Durham batsmen were completely at sea to the spin bowlers, L. O’B. Fleetwood-Smith and W. J. O’Reilly, who ended the first innings in 100 minutes. Though the light, which had been bad during the first innings, had improved by the time Durham followed on, the county fared no better and was all cut in 70 minutes. The only batsman to show any class was the veteran professional, J. Carr, who in the second innings took two successive sixes from FleetwoodSmith. Scores: —
