Because of the heavy frost on Saturday morning the Southland champion ploughing match was postponed until today. At the original starting hour the ground was too hard for ploughing, but the committee hoped that by two o’clock the thaw would enable the match to be started. Shortly before that time, however, a test was made with a tractor-drawn plough and the powerful tractor was unable to pull the plough through the ground. The match was then postponed. There was already a big crowd on the ground and there were prospects of an almost record attendance. Although it was freezing at Lorneville last night the ground was comparatively soft and it was thought likely that the match would be held today.
