RISING TIDE OF CHRISTIANITY

VIEWS OF THEOLOGIANS FROM AMERICA

AUCKLAND, July 9.

Two of America’s leading theologians, Dr Walter M. Horton and Professor Henry van Dusen, arrived on the Monterey on a short visit to New Zealand. Dr Horton is Professor of Theology at Oberlin (Ohio) and Professor v.-n Dusen, Professor of Theology at the Theological Union Seminary in New York. They will attend the Third International Missionary Conference in Madras in December. “There is a rising tide of Christianity in the churches in the world today, the most potent since the Reformation,” said Professor van Dusen.

“This movement is inter-denomina-tional and its momentum may be gauged by the fact that the episcopal parishes of the Anglican Church in the United States recently voted unequivocally to effect union with the Presbyterian Church,” he said. “And the North and South Methodists who have been divided since the clash over the slave question, have voted for complete reunion. This is the largest single Church in the United States.”
