SUCCESSFUL FIXTURE AT GRASSMERE

THREE MATCHES FIRED The Southland Gun Dog Club he id a successful clay-bird shoot at Giasmere on Saturday afternoon, there being a good attendance of the public. Three matches were held, a novice match of nine birds and two ’P®. n matches, one a sweepstake of 15 birds and the other of nine birds tor a trophy. „ The outstanding competitor was -. Broad who. although he had not previously shot clay birds, broke 29 bircs, out of 33 shots during the afternoon. He won. the novice match with a possible, divided the sweepstake in -e first open match with H. Broad and E. Broad, with 13 breaks and tied or second in the last match with tour other competitors with seven breaks each. G. Flood, L. Blackler and Halpin were other novices who snot particularly well. G. Broad was the winner of the trophy match with a score of eight birds, missing only his fifth bird. The officials were: Referees, Messrs J. B. Pasco and J. Thompson; handicapper, Mr H. Broad; trapper, Mr J. Broad; scorers, Messrs J. R. O’Brien and R. Broad.

Following are the scores:— NOVICE MATCH, nine birds (15 competitors).—F. Broad (9 birds) C. Flood (8), T. Blackler and E. Halpin (7 each), H. Burgess (6), W. Pay L. Kingsland, F. Padget, W. Bickley P. Hennessey and J. G. Pasco (5 each), N. Varcoe and N. Blair (4 each), O. McPherson and A. Finn (2 birds). OPEN SWEEPSTAKE, 15 birds (8 competitors).—H. Broad (12yds), F. Broad (12yds) and E. Broad (18yds), 13 birds, G. Flood (11yds) and G. Broad (18yds), 11 birds; J. Thompson (14yds), 10 birds; D. Duggan (15yds), 7 birds; F. Hall (11yds), F birds. OPEN MATCH, nine birds (13 entries).—G. Broad (18yds) 8 birds, T. Blackler (llyds), J. Thompson (14yds), E. Broad (20yds), E. Halpin (11yds) and F. Broad (15yds) 7 birds; H. Broad (15yds) and R.
