Mr and Mrs S. J. Morrison, Woodlands, spent last week-end at Fabia.

Mr and Mrs D. W. Gordon, Otatara, have left for a holiday in Auckland and a tour of the North Island. Mr and Mrs E. Dewe and their daughter, Esma, of Woodlands, are spending a holiday with Mr and Mrs J. Patterson, Ohai.

Mrs J. S. Patterson, Ohai, has returned home after spending a holiday with her parents, Mr and Mrs R. Dewe, Woodlands.

Miss Doris Bell, who is to be married this month, was the guest of honour at a bathroom afternoon tea given by Miss Fallow, Gore, at her parents’ home at Thornbury. The Otara Hall Committee’s series of euchre tournaments continue to attract big numbers of players. The winners of last week’s games were Miss N. Casey and Mr F. A. Hughes, and the aggregate score for the first four nights was won by Mrs F. Morrison and Mr A. McGarvie.

The bachelors and spinsters of Otara held a successful ball in the Otara hall recently. Visitors were present from all the surrounding districts. Music -yas supplied by Macintosh’s orchestra and

The Arrowtown branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers Union entertained Miss A. Brown at a kitchen afternoon at the home of her mother, Mrs A. Brown, Lower Shotover, recently. There was a big gathering of members, and some very useful presents were given to Miss Brown. Solos were sung by Mrs Shaw (Arrowtown) and Mrs Miller (Crown Terrace). Those present were Mesdames A. BIRTHDAY PARTY GAMES AND COMPETITIONS ENJOYED Mr and Mrs Murdoch McLeay, of Otahu, gave a birthday party in honour of their daughter, Pearl, at the home of Mr and Mrs George Murray, Avenal, Invercargill. The evening was spent in games, competitions and musical items. Mrs McLeay presented the guest of honour with a gold key. She congratulated her and wished her happiness. Miss McLeay replied. Mr P. Baird and M. Fairburn. OBITUARY i MRS E. WOHLERS There died on Saturday one of the first residents of Georgetown, in the person of Mrs E. Wohlers. Arriving in New Zealand on the Zealandia about 1872, Mr Wohlers was accompanied by her husband, Mr John Wohlers, and two children. After residing in Dunedin for eight years the family moved to Invercargill, where Mr Wohlers set up a tailoring business which he carried on until his death eight years ago. There were 10 children of the marriage. Three of the family died some time ago. Mrs Wohlers is survived by four sons and three daughters, 32 grand-children and 13 great-grand-children. ;

FIRST ANNUAL BALL JUNIOR HOME-MAKERS’ CLUB ENTERTAINS There was a big crowd at the Gorge Road Junior Home-makers’ Club’s first annual ball, which was held in the Gorge Road Coronation hall on a recent evening. Balloon, streamer and confetti dances were held and Mr S. Marshell (Wyndham) won a guessing competition. Lucky spot waltzes were won by Miss V. Lobb and Mr S. Lawson and Miss D. Donnelly and Mr R. McNaughton. Mr T. Peters was master of ceremonies.

WEDDING POWELL-MILNE On Saturday, June 25, at the Knox Presbyterian Manse, Invercargill, the marriage was solemnized of Norma May, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs John Milne, of Otara and Mr James R. Powell, of Awarua Plains. The Rev. J. Chisholm performed the ceremony. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a brown costume, with hat and shoes to match, and she carried a bouquet of African marigolds, and tea-roses. The bridesmaid, Miss Margaret Parkinson, of Underwood, a cousin of the bride, wore a navy blue costume .vith hat and shoes to match. She too carried a bouquet of African marigolds and tea-roses.

Mr Robert Black, of Otara, was best man. The reception was held at the Brown Owl. Before her marriage the bride was given a kitchen evening in the Otara hall by her friends. The future home of Mr and Mrs Powell will be at Bluff. EUCHRE TOURNAMENT AND DANCE WOMEN’S DIVISION FUNDS ASSISTED A successful euchre tournament and dance was held in the Wrights Bush Hall in aid of the Women’s Division funds. The prizes were won by Mrs G. Carter and Mr S. Rodger, and the aggregate prizes for six nights were won by Mrs W. Buchanan and Mr M. Anderson. Music for the dance was supplied by Mr F. Smith, an extra being played by Mr J. McFadden and Mr I. McCallum. Mr O. Robertson acted as master of ceremonies. Among those present were Mr and Mrs G. Carter, Mr and Mrs T. Anderson, Mr and Mrs J.
